How does this marriage. Do you think I'll be disappointed when its all said and done? After what seems like years of research, I think we finally found the perfect place. Is a YMCA. Now, before you judge me, hear me. We live in NY, smack dab between Saratoga and Lake George (LG is one of the destinations most popular holiday in the north-east and is famous for the Saratoga racetrack). We have literally thousands of sites to choose from, but all were either too expensive or just not us. In the north of LG there is a "resort" called Silver Bay. There is a YMCA in the sense that it offers what appears to be an unlimited amount of activities for people of all ages, as well as accommodation on campus (they have a large dormitory very nice hotel, but also and boxes). If we choose to go to this place, we will have our ceremony close to the water. I do not think many will be needed as far as scenery of this area the views are magnificent. I like the look of the Shepherds hook placed at the end of each island with a pomander attached ( http://media.theknot.com/ImageStage/Obje ... ). I plan to make these myself using carnations. Carnations get a bad reputation, but if used right, they can be very beautiful. We are both as far as religious as a couple can get it will be a very quick ceremony. I think to ask a cousin who I am very close with to get ordained and marry us. If work does not work, we'll just hire a JOP.
Silver Bay has a few different choices regarding the restoration. All their banquet buffet. They have a more traditional dinner menu (beef, chicken and fish), but they also have what they call the "upgrade BBQ". Basically its BBQ ribs, chicken, corn on the cob, baked beans, potato earth oven, green salad and strawberry shortcake (I'm hoping to get a slight reduction since we will not need the desert). They offer this for $ 21.00 ($ 10.50 for children ). The traditional dinner is two times more. This offer does not work instead of alcohol, but we are allowed to bring our own. We pay a fee per person per hour for the alcohol because their servers serve the guests their alcohol consumption. I totally agree with this charge, since in this way, customers have no idea that we provided our own alcohol. My betrothed has also assured that it will be much cheaper than to have a bar open through the site.
We're leaning toward the option barbecue. We intend to marry the weekend memorial day 2011. Personally, I think a reception barbecue this weekend special is certainly appropriate. The wedding site is atleast one hour drive to almost everyone, if we assume that the number of guests will probably spend the night. They even dock a private bonfire for us and our guests. I say, we'll buy a bunch of smore making supplies and hopefully we'll have a little beer left by the marriage. I think this will give us the perfect opportunity to relax with his nearest and dearest. They also offer an option for cheap banquet brunch. If budget permits we may arrange for clients who choose to stay (we know in advance because they have to make reservations). How do you think that sounds? My fiance and I arent very high maintenance personnel. We would also be happy to stay at home and have burgers on the grill as we go to a nice restaurant.
The reason I ask if you think I'll be disappointed for very long because I wanted the large formal sit down dinner reception with white-gloved servers. Well, reality has struck then, and I realized that there was no way we could afford this on our own. It is important to us to pay our own wedding. Neither parent is too rich, but they could give. We are successful adults (only 23) who can afford to PA.
