What are good questions to ask your wedding cake baker? I will start interviewing wedding cake bakeries and wanted to know what are good questions to ask before you go to? So far, my list includes:
How long have they been in business?
How many servings you get from each size cake.
What is the charge for Baker decorations by hand and are they cheaper than pre-made decorations.
Do you offer cake tops
What is their payment policy
What are the different types of frostings and toppings they offer to their cakes.
Anyone with ideas or other questions, I would be concerned, in particular prices and other costs?
Thank you in advance
What are the costs of delivery and installation.
Is there a surcharge for cake stands?
request samples and see pictures of cakes they have made real
ask to see a copy of their contract and make them explain in detail everything that you do not understand or have problem with.
Ask for references for 3-5 and 3 people who were not satisfied. Call these people and ask many questions about why they liked / hated this baker. The baker will think you're crazy to ask for dissatisfied customers, but they will tell you as they have seen and you could get a good overview of them.
Ask them if they are members of any professional organizations, and if so what they are. Then start the organization. Are they a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Check them with the Better Business Bureau.
Everyone was to give you great ideas on what to ask. I just thought I'd take another path.
Ask what they are doing so (Caution!) The cake should be abandoned when they are putting in place, etc. ....
They can help with a link from theknot.com:
Do you have a portfolio of previous wedding cakes you've done that we can watch?
Will you have a tasting when you can attend and try different types of wedding cake and cake fillings??
Can you provide references?
Want to make a custom wedding cake, or is there a specified number of reasons for us to choose?
How adaptable are wedding cake designs, especially because of budget problems?
Have you or do you rent items such as cake toppers, stands, benches, fountains, and knives? Will we be charged more?
If I want to use fresh flowers on my cake, will you coordinate with my florist, or will I do to manage the flowers for you?
What ingredients do you typically use? What kind of icing do you use?
(Better ingredients cost more, but this makes the cake taste better. Also, if you plan to have an outdoor wedding, the designer should not use the butter cream - it will melt.)
How long before our wedding cakes are prepared? How long does it take to make a cake?
(The closest to your wedding that the cake is prepared, the better the taste. But those who tell you they can make a wedding cake in one day does not tell you the truth, or are not realistic. Because of the complex nature of wedding cakes, they usually take between three and five days.)
Are you Wedding Cakes price cut? Is there an additional cost for the special atmosphere or details?
Will you charge extra for my project? Is there a price list I can take with me to study?
Can you give me a written proposal that I can take home?
Do you offer? How much does it cost? Is the driver able to freeze or emergency repair and decoration of the table to hold cake?
What is your backup plan in case my cake is damaged during delivery?
you should give them an amount you are comfortable spending and ask what you get.
I would not ask how long they have to be.
